Appointments and Transitions

CHATTANOOGA
  1. Kevin Alward—named president and CEO of Covista Communications, which recently bought two New York City-based telecom companies, GT3 Holdings and ClearEnd Corp.
  2. Andrea Anderson—named president of the Greater Chattanooga Lodging Association.
  3. John P. Franklin—started a new funeral home upon departing the Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home. The former Chattanooga city commissioner will run the new venture with his daughter and son, current city councilman Duke Franklin.
  4. Sean Martin—joined Leitner, Williams, Dooley
  5. & Napolitan's Chattanooga office along with Cherie Jewell, Bruce Gill and Tom Sippel.
  6. Jason Mirmelstein—made partner at Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, where he practices mergers, acquisitions and securities law, along with Harold North, who focuses on bankruptcy and commercial cases.
  7. Jack Price—named president of the International Claim Association. He manages
  8. the special investigations unit at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Dr. David Moroney became chief medical officer at the insurer's government business and emerging markets unit. Prior to joining BlueCross, he was the chief medical officer at Physicians Community Health in Nashville.
  9. Katie Reinsmidt—promoted to director of corporate communications and investor relations at CBL & Associates Properties. Dan Summerlin became director of corporate relations.
KNOXVILLE
  1. Tom Ballard—named director of the technology transfer department at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Most recently he was in charge of economic development and partnerships at the lab.
  2. Terry Boston—left the post of executive VP of power systems at TVA, the nation's largest public utility after 36 years to become president and CEO of PJM Interconnection of Pennsylvania.
  3. Jennie Campbell—named Summit Medical Group's COO. She arrives from Pershing Yoakley & Associates.
  4. Loren Crabtree—resigned as chancellor of UT-Knoxville, ending several months of spats over governance with university President John Petersen. Crabtree is replaced with interim chancellor Jan Simek.
  5. David Dotson—named president of the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library program.
  6. Sam Lynch—CEO of BioMimetic Therapeutics—joined the board of Green Bankshares of Greeneville.
  7. Allen Musil Jr.—appointed medical director and senior VP of medical services at Frontier Health. He was a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at ETSU.
  8. Chris Ruble—promoted from senior VP of operations to executive VP of Forward Air Corp. of Greeneville. Matthew Jewell was promoted to executive VP and chief legal officer from senior VP and general counsel—a post now filled by Michael Hance.
MEMPHIS
  1. Dr. Keith Anderson—elected president of the Memphis Medical Society, replacing Dr. Valerie Arnold. He is a cardiologist at Sutherland Cardi- ology Clinic.
  2. Ken Brame—retired as CIO of AutoZone, replaced by Jon Bascom, who added the title of senior VP of IT. Mark Finestone was named senior VP of merchandising.
  3. Thomas Boggs—inducted into the Tennessee Restaurant Association's Hall of Fame. He is co-owner and CEO of Huey's Restaurants.
  4. V. Lynn Evans—elected chairman of the MLGW Board of Commissioners. William Taylor became vice chairman.
  5. Steve Grubbs—named CEO of Jackson's Regional Hospital, replacing Tim Puthoff who departed to the hospital's parent company Community Health Systems Professional Services Corp.
  6. Lori Kessler—promoted to administrative director of medical education and research at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. She was corporate director of clinical research and grants management at the Methodist Healthcare Foundation.
  7. John Reier—retired as president of discount retailer Fred's, concurrently with Gerald Thompson, who retired as executive VP and COO.
  8. Joe Wiley—elected by the trustees of Freed-Hardeman University as the school's new president. He arrives from Rogers State University in northeastern Oklahoma. Longtime president Milton Sewell, who is retiring, will remain in charge of fundraising as chancellor.
NASHVILLE
  1. Sally Bowers—joined Franklin Synergy Bank as executive VP and president of the bank's mortgage division.
  2. Richard Dinkins—moved from Davidson County Chancery Court at the behest of Gov. Phil Bredesen to the Tennessee Court of Appeals-Middle Section, filling the vacancy left by William Bryan Cain.
  3. Richard Dreiling—tapped as CEO of Dollar General, arriving from Duane Reade, the largest drug store chain in the New York City metropolitan area.
  4. Matt Gallivan—departed after 10 years as president of the Nashville Health Care Council to join its member company Community Health System, whose CEO Wayne Smith was recently named health care CEO of the year by the Institutional Investor magazine for the second year in a row.
  5. Jim Shulman—appointed deputy commissioner at the Tennessee Department of Health, working under Susan Cooper. He is former executive assistant to Tennessee finance commissioner Dave Goetz.
  6. Chip Staton—named director of operations at Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain.
  7. Jensen Sussman—joined BMG Nashville as associate director of media. Vance Cobb became manager of regional promotion.
  8. Carol Swain—nominated by President George W. Bush to the National Council on the Humanities. She teaches political science and law at Vanderbilt University.
  9. Libby Wood—left Houston, where she was director of operations at Worldwide Gospel, for a similar role at Indie Extreme, which recently relocated from Houston to Brentwood.
