Heavy Hitters

Pickett County, Tenn., population 4,945, is the birthplace of Alvin C. York, the World War I hero immortalized by actor Gary Cooper in the movie Sergeant York. It is also the birthplace of Cordell Hull, U.S. Secretary of State during World War II and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 for leading the creation of the United Nations.
